  70.  an outside the plant number with 9.  Another man wanted a delay

  72.  switch board to the outside phone company.  Enter the exit code     
  73.  and then commas for the number of two second delays you want,       
  74.  I. E. "9,,,," would give eight seconds delay between the exit code  
  75.  and the number to be dialed.

  105.  Rolodex cards are sorted on the last name, first name and birth     
  106. date.  If you are using "First and last name fields" = Y then the    
  107. sort key is "MCHENRY, HOWARD L.470623" where the numbers at the end  
  108. is the birth date by yr/mo/da.  If "First and last name fields" = N  
  109. then the combined name field is trimmed of trailing spaces and the   
  110. birth date is added in the same way.                                 
  111.                                                                      
  112.  When starting CARDX, enter the asterisk wildcards on the command    
  113. line, I.E. CARDX *.*, CARDX will provide a menu of your data files   
  114. to choose from using the cursor keys.  To load a menu from another   
  115. disk or directory, enter on the command line CARDX <full path and    
  116. wildcards, (d:\path\*.*)>.  To load a datafile from another disk or  
  117. directory, enter on the command line CARDX <full path and datafile   
  118. name, (d:\path\filename).  Direct screen writes (BIOS calls) were    
  119. a problem for some machines, particuarly 386's.  Made all screen     
  120. displays a DOS call.  This slowed the program down some what.        
  121. If your machine will tolerate BIOS calls enter "/F" on the           
  122. command line when loading Cardx enter CARDX /F, CARDX *.* /F or      
  123. CARDX demo /F.  This will give you the faster direct screen          
  124. writes.                                                              
  125.  Command line option "/NOCOM", will not allow the modem to be        
  126. accessed.  A LAN administrator asked for this feature where in some  
  127. cases he did not want the people on the LAN to have the ability to   
  128. access a modem, I. E. CARDX *.* /NOCOM, CARDX *.* /NOCOM /F,         
  129. CARDX /NOCOM, CARDX /F /NOCOM.  When the feature is in place,        
  130. attempting to dial give the message "Dial Feature Is Not Available". 
  131.                                                                      
  132.  To change the Help Screens edit file CARDX.HLP with an ASCII editor 
  133. to suit your needs.  A page consists of 20 rows and 68 columns. If   
  134. a line is longer than 68 characters, it will be truncated.           
  135.                                                                      
  136.  The Phone Log records numbers when they are dialed, they are        
  137. retained regardless if busy.                                         
  138.                                                                      
  139.  To create a new datafile, (M)ark a record and (T)ransfer it to the  
  140. new datafile name.  You will be prompted, "Data file doesn't exist,  
  141. do you want to create it?....", answer "Y".                          
  142.                                                                      
  143.  Quick Search, ALT - Any Letter Key will find the first record that  
  144. starts with that character.                                          
  145.                                                                      
  146.  F4 search, enter "Smith, An" to find Andy Smith of 23 Smiths.       
  147.                                                                      
  148.  Converting files from version 8.1, 8.6, 8.7 or 9.6 to 9.8,          
  149. copy CONVERT.EXE into the directory where your Cardx data files are  
  150. located and on the command line enter "CONVERT *.*"                  
  151.                                                                      
  152.  The F1 key configures the screen colors.  Use PgUp / PgDn or Enter  
  153. keys to change screen color areas.  Use Up / Down Cursor keys to     
  154. change colors.  Press the ESC key to exit the Color Set-up.          
  155.                                                                      
  156.  The number of records Cardx can access is unlimited.  The larger    
  157. the database ,greater the number of records, the slower the program  
  158. is at loading, sorting and saving.  Break your database into smaller 
  159. files for different groups to speed things up.                       
  160.                                                                      
  161.  To password protect a file use the Alt - F10 keys to add a password.
  162. To remove a password strike the Enter key when change password is    
  163. selected from the rolodex screen.  Suggest you back-up your file     
  164. without a password in case you forget the password.                  
  165.                                                                      
  166. ________________________Custom Print Features________________________
  167.  Select and edit a "Custom Print Program" by entering F9 or F10 and  
  168. select "Select Print Program".  A menu will be provided of all the   
  169. custom print programs in the directory, *.PRT files.  After a        
  170. selection is made, the program will prompt you if you want to edit   
  171. the file, where the print program can be edited, to exit and save    
  172. press the PgDn key.  If changes are made to the print program, on    
  173. save and exit you will have the opportunity to create a new file,    
  174. enter a new print program filename.                                  
  175.                                                                      
  176.  Writing or changing a print program:                                
  177.  Field name variables from the database:                             
  178. FNAME  = First name                                                  
  179. LNAME  = Last name                                                   
  180. STREET = Street address                                              
  181. TOWN   = Town                                                        
  182. STATE  = State                                                       
  183. ZIP    = Zip code and extended zip code

  186. BIRTH  = Birth date, 06/23/47                                        
  187. ADINFO = Added information field is printed in 5 lines of 54         
  188. columns, blank lines are not printed.                                
  189.  #27 77 27 120 1 27 69#, printer control codes are enclosed by the   
  190. pound sign.  These can be embedded between variables or text.        
  191.  Row and column coordinates place a variable at that location from   
  192. the top and left edge of the paper.  The first number is regarded    
  193. as the row number and any numbers there after are column numbers     
  194. in that line.                                                        
  195.  'Text' to be printed is enclosed in quotes.                         
  196.  Text and variables can be mixed in a line by separating them with   
  197. a space.  The space delimits all commands.                           
  198.  ;All text in a line after a semicolon is ignored as a comment.      
  199.  FORMFEED  = a form feed is printed after this command.              
  200.  FORMFEED? = You are prompted if you want a form feed when only      
  201. printing a single record.  It is ignored when printing all of the    
  202. database or marked records.                                          
  203.  FORMFEED! = Do a formfeed after last record is printed, eject       
  204. last page.
